Muscular knots in the tissue can create pain that is felt in a area 5 times larger than the actual muscular tension that is causing the pain.
These nodules in the tissue can place 2,0000 pounds per square inch of force within the tissue and shorten a muscle thus pulling joints out of position and causing extreme pain and discomfort.
Unfortunately these knots or trigger points can not be detected in X-ray and are best diagnosed from a qualified therapist.
In order to eliminate a trigger point stretching and massaging these hyper irritable points are insufficient. However in chinese medicine these trigger points can be addressed much more efficiently with the use of Gua Sha.
Gua Sha is a ancient modality using a natural substance such as buffalo or cow horn, or jade and other stone materials. These materials massage loose calcified tissue relieving pain and stress.
Due to there composition the resulting gliding action over the effected area produces a resonance oscillation that breaks down the brittle calcified tissues.
The area scraped over will produce a red or purple dark spots that contain the metabolic wastes trapped deep inside the dead tissue, the resulting detox allows for metabolism or blood flow to be re established thus healing the patient.
I have worked 20 years serving clientele from Colorado to Cabo and have found Gua Sha to be a integral part of any manual therapy.
